During the PNC days we did not have the "balls" to complain but we do a hell of a lot now. Let the best bidder win. The most capable to do the task at hand and affiliation be damned. D.singh

What Does This Mean?- 86 CASUAL 1896

86 CASUAL 1896 simply means registration number 86 in the CASUAL REGISTER for the arrival of emigrants to British Guiana in the year 1896.

A CASUAL was the term applied to any emigrant( from Bharat,
Africa, China, Portugal or the West Indies) who was not introduced into British Guiana under indenture. A number of former indentured labourers who were repatriated to Bharat(India) opted to return to British Guiana as paid passengers and were recorded in the CASUAL REGISTER. Persons who were sent from Bharat to work in the Immigration Department of British Guiana were recorded in the CASUAL
REGISTER.

Some persons whose indentureship contracts expired in
another colony(e.g. Suriname, Trinidad, St.Lucia, Grenada etc.) and who relocated to British Guiana instead of returning to India were recorded in the CASUAL REGISTER. A number of these CASUAL REGISTERS are housed in the General Registry Office in Georgetown.
